Andrew Honz
Andrew Thomas Honz, 86, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Grand Island Veterans Home after a lengthy bout with cancer.

Mr. Honz was cremated.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Piontkowski will officiate.

Burial of ashes will be at a later date.

Mr. Honz was born Nov. 8, 1926, at Dunlap, Iowa, to Thomas A. and Eleanore (Hoffman) Honz.

He married Lucille Ferrara on Aug. 21, 1948, at Omaha.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Steph Honz of Loup City; and two sisters, Marge Feldman of Harlan, Iowa, and Sister Norma Honz, O.S.B., of Atchison.

Also surviving are two granddaughters Marcy Bruggeman of Omaha and Dawn (Bruce) Rieker of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Kaitlyn and Jacob Rieker; and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew served in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 26, 1946. He worked for International Harvester in Omaha before transferring to Grand Island. Later he worked as a salesman for Island Supply Co. until his retirement.

Andrew was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, VFW Post 1347, the Elks and the Platt-Duetsche and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and John Mickels; a brother-in-law, Raymond Feldman; and a nephew, Allan Feldman.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral.

This is Tom Roemmich who knew Andy through Clay County Hi way Dept. Andy was a good friend and always had a joke or 2 whenever he came down. My thought and prayers are with the family. He was a super guy and great salesman.

Andy called on Webster County for many years. He was always the professional. I have missed him since he retired, and I will miss more now. Our deepest sympathy, our thoughts are with his family. Webster County Road Department
