Arlene Meyer Obituary

Arlene A. Meyer

May 24, 1936 - November 17, 2025

Arlene A. Meyer, 89 of Grand Island, (formerly of St. Paul), passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Country House in Grand Island.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. Susan Jewell and Val Killinger will be offering words of comfort. Family will greet friends 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Shelton, Nebraska.

Arlene was born at home on May 24, 1936, the daughter of August and Selma (Ficken) Luebbe near Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Seward, Nebraska. She attended Country School District 45 for eight years and then went to Pleasant Dale High School, where she graduated in 1953.

Arlene married Ruben Meyer on August 31, 1958, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Seward County. They made their home north of Shelton, Nebraska and to this union, seven children were born. She was a stay-at-home mom who "wore many hats" from baking homemade bread, raising and butchering chickens, milking cows by hand, as well as gardening, and canning. Arlene and Ruben were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Shelton where they lived for 32 years. In 1990, Arlene and Ruben moved to an acreage outside of Wolbach, Nebraska where they had chickens, goats, mules, and Belgian horses. While living in Wolbach, Arlene worked for TLC for over 13 years, was a member of Pins and Pans Extension Club, and was a Red Cross blood donor. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach where Arlene was a member of Dorcas Circle. Arlene loved the outdoors, gardening, flowers and taking care of farm animals. In her last few years, she received care at Matelyn Retirement Center in St. Paul and Country House of Grand Island.

Those left to cherish her memories are five sons and two daughters, Arlan (Jenette) Meyer, Byron (Kimberly) Meyer, Brenda (Roger) Rasmussen, Wendall (Ann) Meyer, Gaylene (Mark) Schmit, Craig (Meagan) Meyer, and Dwayne (Tara) Meyer; sixteen grandchildren, Jeremiah (Katie) Meyer, Johanna (Ron) Jackson, Anthony (Melissa) Meyer, Chelsea (Nathan) Dujanovic, Josiah Kirby, Matthew (Aspen) Kirby, Alyssa (Andrew) Jarecki, Marissa Roshau, Justin Meyer, Danielle Schmit, Cassandra Schmit, Tyler Meyer, Micaela Meyer, Sydney Meyer, Jackson Meyer, and Samuel Meyer; eleven great grandchildren, Luke, Emma, Carter, August, Liam, Emma, Parker, Wyatt, Greeley, Drew, and Rai'Lynn; one sister and one brother, Janice (Gilbert) Woebbecke, Verlyn (Marcia) Luebbe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ruben; and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later or donor's choice.
