OBITUARY: CASSANDRA HAHN
Cassandra "Cassie" Ann Hahn, daughter of Randy and Pauline (Iwanski) Hahn, was born in Aurora, Nebraska, on January 10, 1991. She proudly arrived as Aurora's first New Year's Baby that year. Cassie passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family's love, on December 11, 2025.
Born with cerebral palsy, Cassie faced many challenges, but none of them ever defined her. Instead, she will be remembered for her incredible strength, radiant smile, deep love of music, and her occasionally ornery, always endearing personality.
Cassie attended Aurora Public Schools until the age of 21 and later received services through Mosaic in York. As her care needs grew, she moved to Emerald Lakeview Rehabilitation in Grand Island in 2017.
Throughout her childhood, Cassie traveled with her family to
Shriner's Hospital twice a year for care, with trips that often included a stop at the Mall of America. She participated in horse therapy at Hilltop Ranch, and even though riding required hard work and taxed her stiff muscles, she greeted every session with delighted squeals the moment she was lifted onto her horse.
Cassie taught everyone around her to celebrate small victories, embrace ordinary days, and love without hesitation. She spent countless hours listening to music while spinning in her wheelchair, so much so that she wore a hole straight through the carpet. She loved going to her siblings' sporting events, where she danced to the music from the band, soaked up the commotion of the crowd, and, of course, enjoyed her favorite treat, popcorn. She adored watching "Barney" and "The Wiggles," drawn in by their upbeat songs. She loved spaghetti, and to the amusement of her family, could out-eat her older and much larger brothers on spaghetti nights. She loved being in the water, soaking up the sun on the deck, and taking long walks around town with her sister Kayla.
More than anything, Cassie had a way of making everyone around her better. She brought out the best in her family and friends, reminding them to slow down, to laugh at the little things, and to hold tightly to what matters. Her joy was pure and uncomplicated, and her presence made every gathering warmer. Though her voice was quiet, her spirit spoke loudly, shaping her siblings' lives and teaching her family a depth of love, patience, and kindness they did not know was possible until her. We are all better for having known her, and the love and lessons she shared will remain with us forever.
Cassie was preceded in death by her grandparents Floyd and Marie Iwanski and Arnold and Viola Hahn, uncle Don Iwanski, and her aunt and uncle Don and Cheryl Hahn.
She is survived by her parents, Randy and Pauline Hahn of Aurora; her siblings Barrett (Jennifer) Hahn of Grand Island, Kayla (Michael) Varley of Wayne, Dustin Hahn of Beatrice, and Ryan Hahn of Auburn; and by her beloved nieces and nephews: Benjamin and Madisyn Hahn; Kinzly, Bryson, and Paxton Varley; Wyatt Simpson; Maranda, Rylan, and Cylan Hahn and Hazel Drake.
Pallbearers will be her immediate family members. It is only fitting that those who carried her through life help carry her on this final part of her journey.
