David Theodore Schroeder

April 2, 1948 - January 20, 2025

ST. PAUL - David Theodore Schroeder of St. Paul, Nebraska, passed away peacefully Monday, January 20, 2025. He was surrounded by his family, in the home he loved.

Dave was born to Theodore George and Dorothy Mae (Price) Schroeder on April 2, 1948, in Grand Island, Nebraska. He had five siblings, Jim (Shelly) Schroeder, Ted (Lori) Schroeder, Annette Schroeder (Lew Tapia), Georgette (Denny) Smidt, and Tim (Karen) Schroeder.

After his graduation from Grand Island Senior High, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, earning his law degree. During his storied career, Dave served as president of the National Criminal Defense Attorney Association, president of the Western Nebraska Criminal Defense Association, and was a member of the Supreme Court Bar, as well as the Nebraska State Bar Association. While Dave spent the majority of his career as a defense attorney, he wrapped up his last decade in service to the community as the Howard County Attorney. Dave also had a Commercial Pilot License and clocked many flight hours both personally and professionally, assisting with private medical transports and search and rescue missions.

Dave and his wife Patricia Ann (Jensen) shared a mutual devotion and love of life. They began their life together in Ogallala, eventually building their dream home in St. Paul, Nebraska. Dave and Pat's blended family includes seven children, Dianna (Bob) Swanberg, Jeffrey Kolsrud, Becky (Mike) Wheeler, Shelly Kolsrud (Alejandro Fernandez), Anissa (Jeff) Hoover, Jon (Rebecca) Schroeder, and Stephanie (Jim) Engelbart; grandchildren, Jen (Joe) Rodriguez, Austin (Kalena) Wheeler, Jake Ambrosius (Julie Guggia), Carol and Emma Schroeder, Carmen Rose Lacosta Kolsrud, Hunter and Laney Engelbart, and Josephina Fernandez; great-grandchildren, Triple, Tate and Rheo Rodriquez, and Jude and Jase Wheeler.

Dave was survived by his wife; seven children; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five siblings; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and so many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Dorothy Schroeder.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 25, 1 p.m. in the afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska, Pastor Adam Snoberger officiating.
