ST. PAUL - Donald E. Nichols, 88, of St. Paul died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Family graveside services will be at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. The Rev. Randy Dilts will officiate.
Mr. Nichols was born Nov. 4, 1924, in St. Paul to Frank and Rose (Mohler) Nichols.
He married Gladys Havel on Nov. 22, 1972, in Geneva.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Ann Nichols.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Frank of Lincoln; one stepson, Richard Havel of Grand Island; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Kay and Tom Hassler of Columbus and Karen and Richard Jantzi of Fairmont; and two grandchildren.
He was raised in St. Paul and attended schools in St. Paul.
He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 37 years, and after retiring, the couple lived in Central Nebraska, most recently in St. Paul.
Don enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was raised in the Methodist faith and was a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
In addition to his daughter, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marvin, Kenneth and Jim Nichols; and a sister, Beulah.
