January 17, 1935 - January 20, 2025
YORK - Effie 'Jane' Nienhueser, age 90 of York, NE, died Monday, January 20, 2025, in York. She was born January 17, 1935, to Cheney and Effie (Rose) Shelton in Clarks, NE. On August 17, 1952, she was united in marriage to Virgil Thorne in Archer, NE. She was later married to Ken Nienhueser on August 29, 2020, at Waco, NE.
Effie was a very involved farm wife. She always helped on the farm and the dairy at Utica, NE. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Waco, and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in York. Effie loved cooking, baking and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Ken of York; son, Ron (Jacquelyn) Thorne of Dunkirk, IN; grandchildren, Sarah Bennett of Lincoln, NE, Doug Drake of Fairmont, NE, Matt Drake of Whitesburg, KY; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and brother, Ernie Shelton of York.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; daughter, Sally; special friend, Herb Mallory; sister, Rosie Holmes; and brother, Bill Shelton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waco, NE. Interment will follow at York's Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to Mission Central. Condolences may be left for the family at metzmortuary.com. Metz Mortuary in York is handling the arrangements.
