Eugene (Gene) Leroy McIntosh, age 65, of Grand Island, NE, died Friday January 31, 2025 at CHI Health St Francis Hospital.

Services arranged will be held Friday, February 7th at Destiny Church, 4306 US Hwy 30 in Grand Island at 11:00 a.m., Visitation will occur at 10:00 a.m., just prior to the service. Luncheon to follow at the Alda Community Center. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mr. McIntosh was born December 26, 1959, at Mullen, NE, to Wendell and Carolyn (Brassier) McIntosh. The family lived for several years on a ranch north of Mullen, later moving to Broken Bow, Lexington, then to Taylor Ranch outside of Grand Island and lastly Torrington, Wyo. He graduated from Huntley High School in 1978 in Goshen County, WY. Following graduation, he returned to the Grand Island area.

He married Letha J. (Jeanie) Bartlett on December 2, 1978 at the Cairo Methodist Church. They resided in Alda and started their family having two children, Robert and Jessica. In 1982, Gene joined the U.S. Air Force completing his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. He was trained as a Computer Operator and his team handled payroll for the Air Force. Gene's wife and children resided with him in Family Housing at Randolph Air Force Base outside of San Antonio, Texas. Later they lived off base Schertz, Texas until he was medically discharged in 1985. At this time, Gene and his family moved back to Nebraska living in Alda.

He attended Kearney State College in 1986 majoring in Education with activities including music and tennis. Over the years he worked at various companies including Leon Plastics, Redman Homes, Hall County Jail, and New Holland. He then spent 18 years as an over-the-road truck driver taking him all over the US driving for companies that included Midwest Coast Transport, Werner Enterprises, Crete Carrier Corporation and then later drove locally for Goodwill Industries and a bread company.

In 1999, he met his longtime partner, Galen Sears who he would spend the rest of his life with. He was forced to give up truck driving due to his health but attempted a new career path and went back to college. He graduated in 2003 with an associate's degree in business administration from Central Community College. Gene and Galen owned/operated an embroidery business for a period of time, but eventually Gene was forced to give up working due to his health.

Gene had a love for music, cars, travel, and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his bowling and pool league nights as well. He was known for maintaining a very clean and tidy home, and a well landscaped yard.

Survivors of his immediate family include his partner, Galen Sears; son, Robert (Rachel) McIntosh, of Grand Island; daughter, Jessica (Justin) Valasek, of Alda; brother, Dallas McIntosh, of Wright, Wyo.; sisters: Sherry (Rod) Swanson, of Grand Island, Teresa (Shayne) Lawrence of Douglas, Wyo., Elaine (Justin) Rollins of Basin, Wyo; Melody (Melvin) McDowell of Mullen; brother, Wayne (Stacey) McIntosh, of Palmer; grandchildren: Jayda Anderson of Grand Island, Robert (Bob) McIntosh, Samson McIntosh, Kallie Valasek, and Jack Valasek, all of Alda.
