Francis Stenka Obituary

Francis E. "Butch" Stenka, 67, of Ogallala, formerly of Grand Island and Kearney, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at Mount Caramel Nursing Home in Kearney with his family at his side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joseph K. Joseph will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and Grand Island Veterans' Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church with a rosary at 7. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mr. Stenka was born April 8, 1945, in Grand Island to Leonard and Catherine (Stenka) McCarty.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra of Ogallala; children and their spouses, Otis Dale Stenka, Connie Finley, both of Grand Island, Peggy Stults, Rena (Victor) Zapata, Francis II (Kari) Stenka, all of Kearney, Chris Stenka of Ogallala; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Luz) McCarty of Arlington, Texas, Leonard (Eunice) McCarty, Dennis (Wendy) McCarty, all of Grand Island and David (June) McCarty of Arlington, Neb.; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda (John) Pedrosa of Lincoln.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Drew, Dusty, Skylar, Jessica, Brian, Chris, Shawn, Michelle, Rochelle, Harley, Cody, Rena, Chris, Dakota and Zackary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Devin Hatcher and Raymond Hatcher; and a daughter-in-law, Tresa Stenka.

Butch grew up and attended school in Grand Island. He entered the United States Army on Oct. 24, 1962 and was discharged Jan. 24, 1966. Butch was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Stults on Feb. 9, 1967, in Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island, Denver and Kearney, with their final move in 2006 to Ogallala.

Butch was a member of the VFW and a strong member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed camping, four wheeling, and fishing, and had a real passion for hunting. He will be remembered as a gentle, generous, loving man and only a 'little' stubborn. He dearly loved his wife and family, especially his grandchildren and had a nickname for each one.
