Ilena M. Gier, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 11, 1922, in Griswold, Iowa, to Byron Frank Orton and Ella May (Nelson) Orton.
She married Roy H. Gier on Nov. 9, 1940. He preceded her death.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha.
Survivors of the immediate family include her son, Lawrence.
Ilena moved to Grand Island in January 1939 to attend business college.
Ilena worked as a secretary at the Grand Island Army Air Field during World War II and then held a similar position at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant during the 1950s.
She then finished her government work at the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in the late 1970s.
