OBITUARY: JERRY EKHOFF
Jerry Edward Ekhoff, the son of Glenn E. and Arva (Post) Ekhoff, was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on November 21, 1947 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on November 7, 2025, at the age of 72.
Jerry lived by Syracuse until the family moved to the Ekhoff farm east of Cook. He graduated from Cook High School. Jerry served in the National Guard from 1966-1972. Jerry moved to Massena, Iowa where he worked as a meat cutter/butcher where he met many friends including his future wife.
Jerry was united in marriage to Mary June Byrd on December 7, 1968 at Massena, Iowa. They had three children: Brock, Kory and Hillary. They made their home in Atlantic, Iowa where Jerry worked as a meat cutter/butcher for Safeway. The family moved to Cook, Neb., where Jerry owned and operated E and E Meat Processing with his brother Gene. They also worked together on the Ekhoff family farm raising hogs. In 1985, the family moved to Aurora, when Jerry and Mary purchased the Aurora Meat Block where the entire family put in many long days and hours. They ran the business for 29 years, before retiring in 2014 and selling the business to the current owners Brent and Andrea Winfield. Mary passed away on February 10, 2022. The last 3 years Jerry enjoyed going to cattle shows, sales and his grandchildren's events. Jerry reunited with Linda Bouwens, whom he had dated in high school and she and her family have been a blessing to Jerry and the entire family. He even went to some soccer matches, which he said was like watching paint dry, but did secretly enjoy it! He also enjoyed baseball.
Jerry was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of Aurora where he sang the Men's group.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; sister, Barbara Shriver; and infant brother, Dallas Ekhoff.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Brock (Renee) Ekhoff and Kory (Heather) Ekhoff all of Aurora, and Hillary Fuhrman of Central City; 6 grandchildren, Morgan and Ford Ekhoff, Kinleigh Ekhoff, Hope Fuhrman and fiancé, Caleb, Cameron (Kelly) Orsburn and Heather (Mitch) Kozak; great-grandchildren, Camila Orsburn, Ghenai, CeCe, Ari and Daisy Kozak. He is also survived by his brother, Gene (Diane) Ekhoff of Cook; and nephew, Kipp and the Wademan family; brother-in-law, Darwin Shriver of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, especially his girlfriend, Linda and her family Nicole (Corey) Nichols, Morgan (Kyle), Matthew (Jenny) and their boys Brayden and Bridger, and Christopher.
Jerry had many kids and grandchildren that were not blood but were always welcome in his house. The family would like to thank them for being there recently. Those were some very good days!
We hope Jerry is up there talking cattle with Glenn and having an ice cold Budweiser with Uncle Don!
