OTTAWA, Kan. - Jerry Lee Schoel, 66, of Ottawa, Kan., passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2021, at the Advent Health Ottawa in Ottawa, Kan.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following graveside services at Curran Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family for medical and future expenses.
Jerry was born March 17, 1955, in Grand Island to Henry "Ercel" and Bernelda (Taylor) Schoel. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1974.
Jerry married Rhonda Fries and to this union three children were born. He later relocated to Kansas, where he worked for Thermo King for 22 years. In 1999, he met the love of his life, Esther Oviedo, and to this union two children were born. Jerry enjoyed fishing, watching football and baseball and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his unforgettable laugh and his kind and generous heart.
He was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his parents, Ercel and Bernie Schoel of Grand Island; wife of 21 years, Esther Oviedo; brother, Wesley (Karen) Schoel of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Janet (Larry) Lutkemeier of Hebron; six children, Ryan (Sheri) Schoel of Rawlins, Wyo., Stephanie (Christopher) Haldorson of Sinclair, Wyo., Evan (Ashlie) Schoel of Frederick, Colo., Rebecca (Sam) Schoel of Ottawa, Kan., and Sierra Schoel of Ottawa, Kan.; stepdaughter, Shelle Smith; seven grandchildren, DeNae Schoel, Hunter and Hayden Haldorson, Shelby and Owen Schoel and Sophia Lang and Emberleigh Collyge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
