Jim Tuma

1939 - 2020

Jim Tuma, 81, of Grand Island. died Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at home, surrounded by family.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
Jim was born in Cotesfield in 1939 to Clarence "Bud" and Frances Tuma. He graduated from high school in nearby Scotia in 1957, as Salutatorian. In 1959, he married Betty Vance and that union had two children, Michael and Barbara. He married Mary Kay Wheeler in 1977 and they have a daughter, Sarah.
Jim worked for Wheelers in Grand Island for 39 years before it was sold and relocated to Iowa. He then worked for Chief Industries until retiring in 2009. Jim was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, cheering on the Husker volleyball team, and was known as a grilling and meat smoking wizard by his family and friends. His smoked turkey was a coveted Christmas treat.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; his three children and one son-in-law, Michael Tuma, of Ashland, Barbara Barr, of Denver, Colo., and Sarah Carter and her husband, Richard, of Charlotte, N.C.; and two granddaughters, Jordan Piper Barr and Maeve Tuma Carter. He is also survived by two brothers, Jack (Joyce) Tuma, of Lincoln and Galen (Carm) Tuma, of Roca.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a very special niece, Rachael Panning.
Jim was a charitable man and in lieu of flowers the family requests that you honor him by wearing a pair of jazzy socks and donate to a charity of importance to you.
