Karen was born on August 31, 1965, in Denver, CO to her parents Donald and Beverly, and graduated from Goodland High School in 1983. Karen lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to family and friends. She welcomed the opportunity to help care for her daughter Brittany, whom had special needs, with open arms, when she married her beloved husband Danny Consbruck on August 14, 2004.
Karen was known for organizing the "Rockstars Annual Summer-Themed Parties" with her friends at her home away from home, Harlan County Lake, always ensuring everyone was having a great time. She enjoyed getting away on the weekends to go camping, boating, and to read a good book. As an avid crocheter, she made sure that every baby in her life was gifted with their own blanket. She was always ready to test her luck on a game of Keno or at the slot machines in the casino. Her greatest joy in life was being a Grandma. Her grandchildren enjoyed baking cookies and brownies, playing games, and being picked up for an afternoon adventure with their MiMi, as they affectionately called her.
Karen worked at Hastings Ford since 2012 and was known for her hardworking, detail-oriented nature and strong work ethic. One of her proudest work accomplishments was becoming certified at the Ford Performance Motor Speedway. Prior to this, she worked as a waitress at the Library Lounge in Grand Island, Neb., and Crazy R's in Goodland, Kan., just to name a couple. She built numerous long-lasting friendships through her work life.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ferol Strawbridge of Alvin, Texas, and Curtis Horney of Littleton, Colo.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Danny Consbruck; her mother, Beverly Horney of Littleton, Colo.; her children, Ashley Washburn of Lincoln, Neb.; Justin Washburn (Lilly Snyder) of Ashland, Neb., Megan Ladenburger (Mikel) of Salina, Kansas; Brittany Consbruck of Salina, Kansas; and Justin Consbruck (Riley) of Juniata, Neb.; and her cherished grandchildren, Kristian and Maverick Washburn, Bryden and Kendrys Ladenburger; and Lydia, Wesley, and Clara Consbruck; and her beloved "grand-kitty" Donnie. She leaves behind her siblings, Lisa (Russ) Martinez of Littleton, Colo., Donna (Terry) Patry of Assaria, Kansas; Kevin (Heidi) Strawbridge of Aberdeen, N.C., Leslie (Justin) Maxwell of Littleton, Colo.; Jill (Ryan) Emerson of Aurora, Mo.; and Terri Trahan of Alvin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Wenburg, Dr. Stritt, Dr. King, and Dr. Habash of Hastings, NE for their exceptional care throughout the years. Her family would also like to thank the hospitalist physicians at Mary Lanning, the emergency room and inpatient nurses/techs, and the entire staff at DaVita Dialysis Center for their wonderful care.
