SHERRODSVILLE, Ohio - Leora A. Dembowski, 100, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, formerly of St. Libory, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. The Rev. Sidney Bruggeman will celebrate the Mass. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Inurnment will be 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Leora was born Nov. 14, 1920, southeast of Wolbach, the daughter of Patrick E. and Nellie Myrtle (Barnett) Lee. She received her education at District No. 6 rural school, north of Cushing.
She met the love of her life, Victor Dembowski and they were united in marriage on Jan. 16, 1945, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.
She lived in St. Libory, for the majority of her life, in a house that her husband, Victor, built with his own two hands. She babysat for many St. Libory children during the years and held all those families dear to her heart.
Victor died June 28, 2003, and she continued to live in St. Libory. In 2009, she made the biggest move of her life, when she moved to Sherrodsville, Ohio, to live with her daughter and her family, where she lived until her passing.
She was a longtime member of St. Libory's Catholic Church.
Everyone who ever met Leora knows that she had a large, warm and loving heart! She always had room for one more at her table and never let anyone go home hungry. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, playing cards and visitors.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Jerry and Jean Dembowski of Parker, Colo., Janet and Jim Snyder of Sherrodsville, Ohio, and Shirley and Jim Daugherty of Pierce; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Ryan and Brandi Dembowski of Lincoln, Rex and Amber Dembowski of Omaha, Jason and Alicia Dembowski of Omaha, Justin and Rachel Dembowski of Jefferson, S.D., Karina and Eric Blaine of Fort Wayne, Ind., Dani and Robbie Collins of Bowerston, Ohio, Jimmy and Makayla Snyder of Uhrichsville, Ohio, John and Caitlin Dembowski of Centennial, Colo., Julie and Greg Stevens of Lincoln and Joseph Dembowski and Theresa Gallagher of Tacoma, Wash; 20 great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Mary (Dembowski) Mostek of Grand Island.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert V. Dembowski; four brothers and spouses, Lyle and Edith Lee, Francis and Eleanor Lee, Earl and Nellie Lee and infant brother, Dale Lee; sisters and spouses, Delores and Bud Stoffel, Marguerite and Melvin Brakeman and sister, Opal Lee.
