Michael Davey Obituary

Michael Leroy (Mick) Davey, age 83, of Lakewood, Colo., passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2025, at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley, Neb., with interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Visitation will be in the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. the day of the service. A Celebration of Life will be held in Lakewood, Colo., at a later date.

Mick was born on November 26, 1941, at the Murphy Maternity Home in Greeley, Neb., to Francis Eugene Davey and Mary Louise (Clark) Davey. He and his older siblings, Patrick James (P.J.) and Margaret Ann (Midge), grew up on the family dairy farm, milking cows and delivering milk and cream to residents of Greeley. He graduated from Greeley Sacred Heart High School with the Class of 1960 and spent one year in the seminary before transferring to Kearney State College. Mick earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, later a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration.

Mick began his teaching career at a country school in Troy Valley northeast of Greeley. From there he moved on to Greeley Public School, then to Grand Island at Gates Elementary and Wasmer Elementary. He served as Principal at Blessed Sacrament School, then as Principal/Superintendent of District 1-R Elementary. Mick later became Principal at Bluejay Elementary in Ravenna, Neb., where he served until his retirement in 1995.

After retiring from education, Mick moved with his partner of 44 years, Ron Koch, to Lakewood and began part-time work in ushering and customer relations at the Pepsi Center, Coors Field, and Paramount Theater.

He had a great love of singing and shared his beautiful tenor voice with the Grand Island City Singers and later with the Denver Gay Men's Chorus. Some memorable moments included performing with the DGMC at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Disneyland, San Jose, and Montreal, Canada. With his radiant smile, striking white hair, and full beard, Mick also delighted countless children and families by playing Santa Claus for many years.

Left to cherish his memory are his partner, Ron Koch of Lakewood; nieces and nephews, Linda Diessner and Rod (Katie) Johnson of Greeley, Neb., Mary Pat (Richard) Fishell of St. Paul, Neb., Katrina Sack of Omaha, Angela (Mike) Wieczorek of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Kathy Davey of Omaha, Neb.; several great-nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, P.J. Davey; sister, Midge Johnson; brother-in-law, Stanley Johnson; nephew, Travis Johnson; and niece, Joanne Marie Davey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the Denver Gay Men's Chorus, the American Heart Association, or donors' choice.
