Randall Lee Griess

June 6, 1951 - December 9, 2025

Randall Lee Griess, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 74 years old. Born on June 6, 1951, in Sutton, Nebraska, Randall lived a life full of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community.

Randall was the cherished son of Curtis J. and Jennie A. (Sole) Griess. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Barry G. Griess. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathlyn A. Griess, whom he married on June 27, 1976, in Marvin, South Dakota. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished memories.

Randall's legacy continues through his three sons, Alex (Maranda) Griess, Josh (Emily) Griess, and Matt (Brianna) Griess. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Zander, Zayla, Brantlee, Madelyn, Johnathan and Bo Griess. He was always ensuring that family time was a priority. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all.

A graduate of Grand Island Senior High, class of 1969, Randall served in the United States Air Force as an E4 Senior Airman from 1971 to 1974, exemplifying the spirit of service and commitment to his country. After his military service, he dedicated his professional life to the community, working at Case New Holland and later at Nebraska Truck Center. His work ethic and dedication were evident in every role he took on.

Randall had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often spending his free time enjoying nature with his family and his beloved dog Albert. He cherished moments spent with loved ones, reminding everyone that family time was where happiness truly resides.

He is survived by his brother, Curtis K. (Dixie) Griess; sister, Ruby (Gary) Jerman, and sister, Kristie (Lynn) Sevenker; as well as his brother-in-law, Tellus (Lori) Waddell; and sister-in-law, Rose (Rodger) Carlson. Randall's kindness, generosity, and unwavering support will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him.

As we celebrate the remarkable life of Randall Lee Griess, let us remember the values he instilled in us: love for family, respect for hard work, and the beauty of the great outdoors. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created with everyone around him.

A book signing and visitation will be held in his honor, and the family invites all who knew Randall to come and share in the celebration of his life at Butler Volland Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 17th from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Randall's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Start Over Rover of Hastings. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Randall Lee Griess will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of his family and the beauty of the outdoors he cherished so dearly.
