Ricarda Reyes-Ortiz

Ricarda Reyes-Ortiz, 79, of Grand Island died on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan D. Sorensen will officiate.

Burial will be at a later date at Cuamio, Michoacán, Mexico.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

She was born on May 4, 1932, at Cuitzeo, Michoacán, Mexico, to Pascual Reyes and Felipa Ortiz.

She married Concordio Nunez in 1953 at Cuitzeo, Michoacán, Mexico.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Rafael and Soledad Nunez of Chicago, Daniel Nunez of Loreto, Texas, Miguel Angel and Silvia Nunez of Grand Island, David and Guadalupe Nunez of Mexico, Jesus Nunez of Grand Island and Luis David and Nico Nunez of Grand Island; seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Paz Nunez of Grand Island, Eloisa and Iraisa Nunez of Grand Island, Cecilia and Jose Luis Villalovos Nunez of Mexico, Maria and Guillermo Nunez Nunez of Grand Island, Anita and Rafael Hurtado Nunez of Grand Island, Veronica Gustavo Hurtado Nunez of Grand Island and Lupe and Noe Torres Nunez of Grand Island; her mother, of Mexico; one brother, Eleuterio Reyes of Mexico; and five sisters, Caritina Reyes of Cartersville, Ga., Audelia Reyes of Chicago, Esperanza Reyes of Joliet, Ill., Remedios Reyes of Mexico and Ventura Reyes of Mexico.

Others left to cherish her memory include 39 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Ricarda grew up in Mexico and attended school there. She raised her children in Cuitzeo, Michoacán, Mexico, before coming to the U.S. in 1990. She enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an excellent cook.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
