Rochelle "Shelly" Marie Kennel, age 69 of Polk, NE died Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Stromsburg, NE. She was born February 15, 1955 at Kearney, NE to George and Elaine (Asay) Spelts. On October 11, 1974 she was united in marriage to David Lee Kennel at Grand Island, NE.
Shelly was a member of the Arborville Congregational Church near Polk. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, nature and loved her animals especially her dogs. Music was a favorite pastime attending concerts with her family and she made the best fried chicken there ever was!
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Rathbun of Marquette, NE; her grandchildren, Taylar (Conner) Eikmeier of Aurora, NE and Jeris Rathbun of Marquette; great-grandchild, Elliot Eikmeier of Aurora. Also surviving is her sister, Barb Ludwig of North Platte, NE; and her brother, Kerry (LeAnn) Spelts of Kearney, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; and two brothers, John and Allan.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Arborville Cemetery near Polk. Shelly has chosen cremation so there will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to her family for later designation. Online condolences can be sent to her family at metzmortuary.com
