Taunya White Obituary

Taunya Jan White

August 6, 1955 - March 21, 2025

Taunya Jan (Vogel) White passed peacefully on March 21, 2025 in Charleston, S.C., after a long goodbye from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. Born August 6, 1955, in Oklahoma City to Patricia and Donald Vogel, an Air Force veteran, Taunya spent her early life in South Dakota and Nebraska. Graduating from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1972, she embarked on various career paths, most notably in the political and fundraising arena as a senior staff member for Nebraska Governor Kay Orr, Executive Director of Hastings College Foundation, Executive Director REACH Foundation and numerous local, state and national political fundraising campaigns. Taunya married Tim White in 1996 and in 1999 moved to Seabrook Island, S.C., where she founded and managed one of Charleston's first medical spa facilities, while remaining especially active in local matters as a board member for The Town of Seabrook Island, Seabrook Island Property Owners Association and The Seabrook Island Club. Her early advocacy for more child and younger adult facilities on Seabrook Island reflects her profound nurturing care for raising her son Max and other young children on the island. Taunya was an active choir member of Johns Island Presbyterian Church for more than ten years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Froehlich (2002); father (2013), and is survived by her husband; her son who now lives in Spartanburg, S.C.; her sister, Dawyn Otto; her mother, Patricia, both of Grand Island, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family is planning a memorial celebration at Johns Island Presbyterian Church in early May, they request if motivated instead of flowers please consider donating to Respite Care Charleston. Family and friends are deeply comforted in knowing Taunya is now reacquainted with Taunya.

Taunya was my best friend in grade school until she moved away from Parker. My sister, Lori, and I spent many happy moments with the family. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. She was an amazing woman. Whenever I thought of Taunya and it was very often, I would smile. Rest in peace. You were very important to me in our early years.

I am so sorry to hear of Taunya's passing.
Taunya was a good friend of my wife (Mary Holt Meduna) in college and after. She was one of our wedding attendants and actually lived with us in Omaha for a brief time. I always enjoyed Taunya.
My prayers and sympathies go out to Tim, Max, and the Vogel family.

We both sang in the choir at Johns Island Presbyterian Church---and went to Montreat NC for choir work shops. We both are Nebraskans!! Going to miss your soprano voice! May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
