Walter Dixon Obituary

HASTINGS -- Walter R. "Babe" Dixon, 79, of Hastings died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare in Hastings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Joseph M. Walsh officiating.

Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dixon was born on Oct. 4, 1932, in St. Paul, Minn., to John Patrick and Josephine (Domagalla) Dixon.

He married Judy Christoffersen on Aug. 28, 1982, in Hastings.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife; two daughters, Deborah Norbeck of New Baden, Ill., and Joanne Seibel of St. Libory, Ill.; two sons, Michael Walter Dixon and John Patrick Dixon, both of Hastings; a brother, Tom Dixon of Harvard; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He attended St. Mark's School in St. Paul, Minn.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1972 as a technical sergeant, including a three-year tour of Vietnam. Babe worked as a lineman for Hastings Utilities from 1973 until 1992. He was a friend of Bill W. and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings.

Babe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Catholic Social Services.
