Diane Schaefer Obituary

Diane S. Schaefer
Hereford Twp. - On Thursday, July 8th, Diane was called home to be with the Lord. Diane was the daughter of the late Stephen and Frances Balogh of Ottsville, and the wife of Norman A. Schaefer. She passed away at home just days before her 49th wedding anniversary. She lived most of her life in Upper Bucks County. She attended Palisades High School, Bucks County Community College, and Delaware Valley College.
Early on, she was employed 13 years as a secretary and receptionist in the medical offices of Miriam and Harold Shore. She spent several wonderful years modeling for Modelique Modeling Agency in and around Bucks County. Diane taught ballet at Saucon Valley Ballet Conservatory. Diane was a member of the Lehigh Valley and PA Ballet Company. During these years, she also taught piano. Later Diane founded the Phoenix School of Dance and was artistic director for 14 years. Diane was a past member of the New Hope Historical Society and loved being a tour guide at the Perry Mansion. She has been a member of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown Hospital for many years and loved serving on the designer house committee while she could still get around. Diane was actively involved for many years with Therapy Dogs, Inc. She took her labs, first Dillon and later Sargent, on numerous visitations. With her concerns about the humane treatment of dogs, she was highly supportive of the Bucks County SPCA and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She was proud of being a dog advocate and defender.
Diane was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, on Ridge Road, where some of her Phoenix dance recitals were held. Diane was also proud of having been a solo student pilot at both Doylestown and Pennridge Airports. She was well travelled carrying fond memories of visitations with her husband to about 10 countries mostly in Europe, but also including Morocco in Africa.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; a few cousins, including, Sandy Knuth, Ida Rose Huff; and a circle of friends including, Debbie and Tom, Joe and Diane, Wayne and Linda and their families, Nancy Schaefer, Randy and Brenda, Don Tenenblatt, Judy Starkin, Dr. Dave Peterson, Karen Fry, and finally her dear friend Diane Kallenbach, who along with her loyal family, Danielle, Lauren, Julianne, and Chad were always there for her. And of course, her current dog, Dr. Galen Schaefer.
Diane should be remembered for her kindness and grace. She left the world a better place than she found it. May she now dance with the dogs in eternity. Services will be private.
