ARDYS E. MINGES
GLENS FALLS - Ardys Evelyn Minges, 88, passed into the hands of the Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the Hallmark Nursing Centre in Glens Falls, NY. Born in Nevada, Iowa, on October 19, 1915, she was the daughter of Oscar D. and Leone E. (Heater) Mason.Ardys was a graduate of Ames High School, Class of 1933. She attended Iowa State University for two years, before going to work as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Ames. On April 30, 1938, she married Philip A. Minges of Battle Creek, MI. Upon completion of his PhD. in horticulture at Iowa State University, Dr. Minges took a position at the University of California in Davis. In 1955, her husband was offered a position at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. They lived near Ithaca until her husband passed away in 1978. Ardys returned to Davis, where she resided until she moved to the Glens Falls area in 1997 to be near her son and his family.She was a member of the Davis Community Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca and the McLean Community Church, serving on various committees in each of these parishes. Her most recent church affiliation was with the Queensbury United Methodist Church. She cherished longtime relationships with friends with whom she kept in regular contact over the years as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren remember that her favorite color was red, and that she loved cats and anything chocolate. She was a member of P.E.O., both locally and in California.Besides her husband, Ardys was predeceased by her son-in-law, Dr. Keith Hartman; and a nephew, Gary DeLonge. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis K. Boehme and her husband Henry of Lisle, NY; her son, Kendall Minges and his wife Carole of Glens Falls; five grandchildren, Karen Dwyre and her husband Kevin of Glens Falls, Kristine Minges Morris and her husband Joseph of Queensbury, Gregory Hartman and his wife Kimm of Nixa, Missouri, Kelly Sellers and her husband Ronald of Lisle, and Kathryn Davis and her husband Travis of North Cape May, NJ; six great-grandchildren, Brian, Lauren, Kaidson, Sage, Ashley, Adam and Andrew; two sisters-in-law, Frances Isaac of Battle Creek, MI, and Rachael DeLonge and her husband Kenneth of Essex, CT; and a niece and several nephews.A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 27, at 11 a.m. at the Queensbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anne Bachman officiating. A reception will follow the service immediately in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at a future time in the McLean Cemetery, McLean, NY.The family suggests that memorials in Ardys' name may be made to the McLean Community Church Cemetery Fund, Church St., McLean, NY 13102, in lieu of flowers.
