Carl Bishop Obituary

Carl W. Bishop, Jr., 72, of Lansing, New York, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Carl was born in Ithaca, the son of the late Carl W. Bishop, Sr., and Vivian M. Poole. Carl was a lifetime resident of Tompkins County, having graduated from Ithaca High School in 1955. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. He owned and operated Carl W. Bishop Painting and Paperhanging that he took over from his father. In 1987, Carl opened Parcel Plus, the first business of its kind in the area. In 1996, he became employed by Tompkins County in the facilities department and retired from there in 2005. Carl was an active member of the New Testament Church of Peruville. He also enjoyed both bowling and hunting.
Carl is survived by his wife of 49 years, JoAnn Miller Bishop; three children, Robert (Christine) Bishop, Sandra (Dale) Kinney and John Bishop (fiancée Gina Saimeri); and two grandchildren, Daigan Bishop and Tarra Kinney, and many cousins.
Friends and family may call Friday, September 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Testament Church of Peruville, located at the corner of Routes 38 and 34B in Groton. A memorial service will take place at New Testament Church of Peruville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the new hymnal/praise book fund at New Testament Church of Peruville, P.O. Box 1, Groton, New York 13073.
