Donald Whittaker Obituary

Whittaker, Donald L.

Leesburg, FL: Donald Lee Whittaker, 72, died June 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born in Berkshire, on February 9 1939, the first son of Riley and Charlotte (Fogle) Whittaker. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Rice) Whittaker, three children, Janine Shaffer (Bo) Brill of Arnold, MD, Wendy (Dave) Albertini of Rockville MD and Jeff (Kim) Whittaker of New Windsor, Md.: Grandchildren Nathan, Emily, Gregory and Joseph; his father, Riley of Owego; brothers Robert (Diana) of Brooktondale, and Dennis of Owego: many cousins, nieces and nephews. His mother, Charlotte, and his son-in-law Tom Shaffer predeceased him. Don retired after many years of service with IBM, largely working on the national space program in various US locations. After retirement, Don & Barbara located in Leesburg where he avidly pursued his passion for golf with the Plantation Residents Golf Club. An internment service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 27, 2011 in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting the family and memories and condolences may be shared in his guest book at macphersonfh.com.

don was a dear friend . i just asked about him i was sorry to hear he passed . i always looked forward to him coming through the door @ hollywood rest for a fish fry . friends for years we were always buying selling and trading stories . don was the absolute best . your friend tom zandi
