GRACE ELIZABETH KNAPP
ITHACA - Grace Elizabeth Knapp, 88, of Ithaca, passed away at the Hospicare Residence and went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Born in Forest Home, Ithaca, NY, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Baker.
Grace attended schools in Interlaken and Trumansburg. She was well-known in the community for the years she spent on East Hill where she owned several rental properties. An astute real estate investor, she purchased, refurbished and sold many old houses over the years. She was a school crossing guard on East Hill at the time when her own children were in grade school there. For many years she provided child care in her home. Her many hobbies and interests included crocheting, sewing and gardening. Grace was an avid reader and loved working on crossword puzzles. She always had beautiful house plants in her home. She loved to go "antiquing" at auctions and estate sales and enjoyed picking and canning fresh fruit. Grace volunteered for many organizations including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, UNICEF and the Tompkins County Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Knapp is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Dan Davies of Harrisburg, PA; son, John Knapp of Orlando, FL; and grandchildren, Mark and Bryan Davies of Harrisburg, PA.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Knapp was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Knapp, Sr.; son, Kenneth Knapp, Jr.; and daughter, Patricia Knapp. The last of seven children, she was also predeceased by her siblings, Shirley, Lawrence, Stanley and Lyle Baker, Mildred Cooper and Edna Collier.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, at the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca, Pastor Jonathan Burns officiating. Friends may call from 1 - 2:00 prior to the service. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Lockwood Cemetery, Lockwood, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
