Hannah Thomas Obituary

Thomas, Hannah O'Hara

Hannah O'Hara Thomas passed unexpectedly on March 27, 2015. Hannah was among the leaders of the Eden Alternative, a movement to improve the well being of elders world-wide. Her death cut short an extraordinary 18 year career as a teacher whose most important lessons reminded us that love and compassion are the greatest of all human achievements. In addition to her international work, Hannah cultivated a strong local following and counted Jan Jerabek, Sarah Stewart, Kathy Bohndorf, Cathy Brush, Sue Caraher, Sonja Needs, Louise Seyge, Jessica Gavurnik, Francie Goff, Karen Legnini, Lydia Dolch, Christina Noon, Katherine Lockwood, Carol Booth, and Andy Russell among her most accomplished students. She will, of course, be missed most of all by her family. Hannah is survived by her parents Dr. William H. Thomas, and Jude Meyers Thomas and her siblings Haleigh, Caleb, Zachary, Virgil and Kaela. Her grandparents are Jane and Joe Meyers and Sandy and Bill Thomas. The families of Patti and Jim Meyers, Janet and Frank Mirabito, Joanne and Rick Borchardt, Julie and Ryan Simmons, LeeAnn and Paul Tinney formed the heart of Hannah's extended family. This wise and gentle woman will also be missed by the hundreds of thousands of Eden friends and family all around the world. To make a donation (in lieu of flowers) or to learn more about Hannah Thomas visit edenalt.org. Friends and former students are invited to join in a celebration of Hannah's life and legacy on Thursday April 2 at 714 N Aurora St. Ithaca, NY from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.
