Teeter, Henry "Hank"

Newfield: Henry "Hank" Teeter, 85, passed away in his sleep on June 4, 2013 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. Hank was a lifelong resident of Newfield, born May 17, 1928, the son of the late Warren and Lena Bush Teeter. Hank grew up helping his family with their logging business and farm. He was a 1946 graduate of Newfield High Schooland an award-winning athlete in their Sports Hall of Fame. He became a union carpenter, Local 603 (now Local 277) and was proud of the numerous area buildings he helped construct. He was married to his sweetheart, the late Lillian Pakkala Teeter, for nearly 58 years. He invested himself in community organizations and was a member of the Newfield Volunteer Fire Company, Newfield Historical Society and Newfield Seniors. Hank will always be remembered for his sense of humor, contributions to town parade floats, and as DJ of teen record hops for Newfield Recreation during the '60's. He enjoyed family and friends, gardening, photography, cooking, baking, home brewing, pies, bluegrass festivals, community dinners, and traveling the US in their camper. Hank is survived by his daughter Nancy (Richard) Mazourek, son James (Kathleen) Teeter, grandson Michael (Shannon) Mazourek and great-grandson Adam Mazourek and nieces, nephews, brothers in-law, sisters in-law, cousins and extended family of very close friends. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian P. Teeter in 2006 and his siblings: Mildred Himmanen, Lee Teeter, Clare Hayes, Roy Teeter, Elsie James, and Lawrence Teeter. Services will be held at the Newfield Methodist Church on Thursday June 27, 2013, Pastor Janice Downey officiating. All are welcome. Calling hours will start at noon followed by a funeral at 2PM and a time of fellowship and refreshments afterward. Private interment will be at a later date at La Row Cemetery, North Van Etten, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newfield Fire and Rescue Squad in Hank's memory.
