Jane Sherwood Obituary

Sherwood, Jane H.

After spending several days with her family, Jane H. Sherwood, age 96, of Daleville, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at her assisted living facility where she had been under the care of Hospicare. Born on February 18, 1917 in Oswego, NY, Jane was the daughter of George and Maude Tipper Park. Following graduation from Oswego High School in 1934, Jane went on to graduate from Cornell University in 1939. Jane then married Arthur Sherwood, spending their early married years as a homemaker and substitute teacher in the many schools in and around the Ithaca area. She later went to work for AAA, working as a travel consultant until her retirement. Jane was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Ithaca and was active in many church organizations. Along with Art, she also enjoyed many years of dancing with the Square-A-Naders. Other interests that kept her busy included Arts and Crafts and gardening. Jane and Art spent winters in Myrtle Beach for several years prior to his death. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, and a sister Beatrice Park. She is survived by her devoted family, a son Don (Anne) Sherwood of Groton; a daughter Anne Ouellette of Daleville, VA; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be announced in the future. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home in Trumansburg.

Anne and Don, I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Growing up next door to your mom and dad was like having an extended family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I worked with Jane at AAA back in the mid-'70's. She was fun to work with, full of energy, always smiling, and helped each traveler plan their road trips carefully to enable them to experience the best from their vacation.
