Leon A. "Rusty" Darling, 92, of Moravia, NY went home to be with the Lord on Friday September 16, 2017 at Oak Hill Nursing Home, Ithaca, NY following a brief illness.

Rusty was born March 25, 1925 in Noxen, PA the son of Frank & Clara Darling. He was an Army Veteran of WW II serving in the ETO from 1941-945 and again with the Medical Collecting Unit from 1946-1950. A resident of Moravia most of his life, he was employed with the NYSDOT until his retirement.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Locke & Moravia and an Honorary Member of the VFW. He had recently taken the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to be honored as a WW II Veteran.

Out side of his family, Rusty especially enjoyed visiting people who were shut in, in the hospital or nursing homes. He was and encouragement and an inspiration to many.

He is survived by 2 daughters-Jeanette (John) Knuutila of Newfield and Beth (Stephen) Stoddard of Port Crane; 1 son-Leon W. (Linda) Darling of Aurora; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Rusty was predeceased by his wife Audrey Pearsall Darling in 2002, a son-Gary in 2015, a grandson-Lee in 2017 and a great-grandson James.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday September 22, 2017 in Christ United Methodist Church, Moravia. Rev. John Aukema will be officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Indian Mound Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church's fellowship hall. Calling hours will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. Memorial contributions may be sent to Four Town First Aid Squad
