Swaney, Marilyn Rose (MacDougal)

Cayuta : Marilyn Rose (MacDougal) Swaney, 62, of Cayuta, NY passed away on July 3rd, 2014 while being cared for by her family and High Peaks Hospice at the home of her nephew Scott Hommes of Willsboro, New York. Marilyn was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 8th, 1952 to Andrew & Rose (Monsorno) Bresadola. Her family moved from Brooklyn to the Catskills and settled in Phoenicia, NY where they owned and operated Deer Park Cottages. As a family they enjoyed playing the accordion together and tubing on the Esopus Creek. Marilyn started her career in health care at CVPH Medical Center in 1973 as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Marilyn was one of the first recipients of a scholarship from CVPH to go back to college to be a Registered Nurse and graduated from Clinton Community College in 1991. After 23 years of employment with CVPH Marilyn moved on to continue her career as a gifted ICU and Trauma nurse in Florida, Virginia, and most recently Interlaken, NY. Marilyn retired in 2009 when she started her battle with Breast Cancer. Marilyn was well known for her caring and kind spirit, bubbly demeanor, and constant smile. She enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb like no other. Later in life she overcame her fear of horses and became a horse lover and owner. Marilyn belonged to The Odessa, NY American Legion Auxiliary Unit 676, where she served as president for 2013. She also belonged to the Daughters of the Grand Republic in Ovid, NY for a number of years. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Philip Swaney Sr. of Cayuta, NY. Her son, Andrew C. MacDougal & partner Renee Bruno of Essex, NY and their children Aidan Gagnier & Myles MacDougal; daughter and son-in-law Heather & David Reynolds of Westport, NY and their children Grace and Claire; Her sister and loving caregiver Joyce Hommes of Willsboro, NY; her sister and brother-in-law Linda & Linden Frasier of Bakersfield, CA; the father of her children Michael MacDougal of Essex, NY; Nieces Jessica Nicholas, Dawn Salmon, & Melissa Frasier; Nephews David & Scott Hommes; Step children Courtney Swaney of Tampa FL; John Swaney of Enfield, NY & his children Amber and John Jr and Philip Swaney Jr. of Clermont, FL.; Her best friend of 40 years Elaine McElveen of South Carolina and her beloved dogs Mikey & Daisey. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
