Nicholas Pellegrino Obituary

Pellegrino, Nicholas A.

Nicholas Pellegrino, 68, of Enfield, NY passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 after a brief illness. Born April 24, 1947 in Ozone Park, NY, Nic served with the Blackhorse 11th Cavalry from 1966-68 as a door gunner on a Huey helicopter in Vietnam. He graduated from Harpur College in 1972 with a degree in Anthropology. For most of his life his passion was auto repair. He bought a Saab with the drivetrain in pieces and when he reassembled it and tuned it up he was so impressed with the model he opened a shop specializing in Saab repair. Nic cared deeply about each of his customers and especially about their cars. Nic lived his life exactly the way that he wanted to, and was passionate about his family, friends, and his pets, especially his dogs. Some of Nic's favorite moments were spent on his boat on Cayuga Lake and attending and watching NASCAR races. His favorite spot in the house was sitting in his recliner watching the birds through the living room window. Nic is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his daughter, Nicole of Aurora, NY, and his son, Jim (Maria) of Brooklyn. He is also survived by his brother, Joe (Amy) of Newfield and many sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Louise. Friends may call on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from noon until 3 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be delayed until spring. Donations in Nic's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P O Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 woundedwarriorproject.org.

I did not realize it when Nick first was assigned to my ship 66-524 a Huey gunship that we would get a class A warrior. Later after my 2nd tour did, I know Nick as an intense man in his profession as that was a description others used when his name was mentioned. I will always remember my brother in the Cav. Enjoy Fiddlers Green they have one of the best

Three years since you've been gone. I miss you, brother. Nick and I served together in the Nam and did a lot of partying together at base camp. I learned a lot from him and can never forget his kind and friendly ways.

Im so sorry to hear of your passing uncle nick. My father Clyde "frank" Cermak served with you proudly in vietnam and when you lived in sound beach long island we had family cookouts and such. We were like family then. I always called you uncle nick..In 2003 i moved to the ithaca area working for ryans towing only to realize you had set up right in enfield. The day i towed into your shop was the best day of my life. I felt as though i found my long lost uncle again. We talked for hours about everything. I will miss you uncle nick but i know you and dad are together with all your other lost buddies living it up!! Say hi to dad for me. Untill i see you both again i will miss you for this life. Rose. I will stop in soon to see you. I know it has been a long time and i hope you can forgive me for not coming around as much. Stay strong rose. He lived the best life he could have. He has many many admirers here and abroad. Love you all forever. Joseph Fischett

Rose, i am shocked and saddened to read of Nikki's passing. time flies by so quickly. it seems like yesterday we were having good times at Mic's, or a party somewhere on a summer day. today, i say goodbye to your husband whom i've known for almost 40 years. this is some kind of reality check. please know Nikki is in the Lord's house now, where peace and beauty abounds.

Rosemary, Joe, Amy - I join all of you in your sorrow, and I thank you, Joe, for your condolences for my own family's losses; both Michael, who you knew very well and his younger brother, Chip, this past November. Both our families are saddened and will grieve for a while. I'm wishing you as much peace as possible during this very difficult time.

Rose . I am saddened to learn of Nic's passing. Reading of his brave military service makes me proud to be a fellow veteran. Nic always spoke from his heart, a trait I found to be refreshing. I am thankful to both of you for being friends ( first) and clients ( secondly) for so many years. My thoughts are with you and I'll catch up with Nic a little later, along the trail.
