I have known and collaborated with Ray Wu for about 40 years. He combined intellectual clarity and a capacity for hard work. Perhaps most importantly he played a key role in developing research and education for the Chinese both in the mainland and Taiwan. Ray was selfless and a man of great integrity and we will miss him.

I had the priviledge to learn and grow under the guidance of one of the most gentle person I have ever known. A true gentleman, an extraordinary teacher and a man of science. Dr. Wu set an example of excellence to all his students, and provided an environment for intelectual challenge and scientific quest. I'm sure all of us who came in contact with him, will always carry his legacy within us. My deepest simpathies to his family. Miguel and Teresita Munoz

I had a very brief encounter with Dr. Wu as I was one of his nurses. He told me about his work, which in turn I told him about the recent article in "Discover Magazine" proposing Life's beginings in ice instead of tropical conditions, etc. His eyes lit up when I mentioned one of the professors of this theory. "Oh yes I knew Stan very well." I am more than lucky that my position allows me to meet such gifted and talented people that have graced this planet. I would have loved to have more conversations with Dr.Wu. Even though I am an "arm chair" science enthusist, Dr.Wu took the time to discuss this theory with me while he was ill.He was very encouraging, and I think if I had the chance to sit in on one of his classes, he would have welcomed me, no matter my level of education. He seemed to project that kind of feeling, even in the small time frame that I knew him. I will miss the opportunity of future discussions I might have had with him.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

As one of his student, Dr. Wu is a great mentor to me. I am proud to have him as my advisor. He always says “a student can learn but he can not be taught”. What he taught me is more than science. Without his tutoring, I won’t be able to achieve what I have now. Dr. Wu is a real gentle and kind person. I never see him blame or talk loud to anyone and he is always there for help. Sometimes I still can not accept this news that he passed away. I expect to see him in the coming international conference. He is always alive in my heart and his spirit and legacy will accompany with all of us.

I'm shocked and deeply saddened to read this news tonight. Ray's generosity and kindness -- so true of his whole family -- have always been evident far beyond Ithaca. His legacy remains potent in ways I can't even know, but most clearly to me in the goodness of his family. My heartfelt sorrow and sympathy go out to Christina, Alice, Albert and their families.
