Baumgras, Richard W.

Richard W. Baumgras, a resident of Dryden, NY, passed away on October 25, 2013 at the age of 77. He was born in Yonkers, NY, the first son of the late Frank E. and Mona M. Baumgras. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Susan; two sons and daughters in-law, Gregory and Kathy of Delmar, NY, and Jeffrey and Stacy of Wichita Falls TX; five grandsons, Andrew, Patrick, Lance, Levi, Joel; two granddaughters, Erin and Amaya. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Marilyn; nephew, Glenn; and niece, Lynne. Richard graduated from Northeastern University in 1959 as a Mechanical Engineer. He was called to active duty in the US Army for two years and later joined the engineering team at Morse Chain of Ithaca and raised his family in Lansing, NY. Richard was known for his pragmatic sensibilities and reserving his interactions for those who shared the same. He enjoyed antiquing, collecting and vacations in Maine. He valued the comfort of home and times spent around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee engaged in spirited conversation with family. Richard held affection for family pets, especially enjoying the company of "Morris", "One-eyed Jack" and "Scrappy", the ever bashful and obedient companion to he and Susan. The family wishes to thank Dr. Adam Law of Ithaca and the staff of Cayuga Ridge Health nursing team for their kindness and compassionate care. Special thanks to Carrie from Hospice whose support and advice, though brief, were immeasurable.
