SARAH MARIE HOUSEL
TRUMANSBURG - Sarah Marie Housel, of 5004 Cold Springs Rd., Trumansburg, passed away at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca, on Friday, October 19, 2007, at the age of 86.
One of eight children of Walter and Clara Hotelling Parker, Sarah was born on July 6, 1921 in Danby, New York. She was married to George Lorenzo Housel in 1940 and worked as a housekeeper for several Jacksonville and Trumansburg families.
She was known around Trumansburg and at the Farmers Market for her homemade horseradish and baked goods. Sarah enjoyed her home and when not in the kitchen, she might be found knitting, reading or tending her breath-taking flower garden. On the rare occasion that she wasn't home, Sarah was "gone fishing" in a nearby stream.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her seven siblings; her husband, George in 1984; and her son, Samuel in 1992.
She is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Rod) Corey of Ithaca, and Anna (Lee) Emmons of Trumansburg; five grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Tim, Jesse and Caren; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Dylon, and other great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, on Monday, October 22, 2007, from 6-8 p.m.
Services will be held at the Jacksonville Community United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. Prayers of Committal will take place immediately following the church service at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
