Sophia Tselekis Obituary
Ithaca - Sophia Tselekis passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Hospicare residence.
She was born April 26, 1925 in Batavia, NY to Leonidas and Polytimi Costianis. Sophia and her husband, John G Tselekis were married for 57 wonderful years. Together they owned and operated the Parthenon Restaurant and later Ithaca Pools. She was a faithful member and founder of St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church and served as Philoptochos Treasurer and Bake Sale Chair for many years. A dedicated and hard working woman, Sophia enjoyed time with her family, cooking and baking Greek pastries and helping those in need.
She is survived by her devoted children, Paulette and Bill Manos and George J Tselekis; beloved Grandchildren and great grandchildren Stacy and Marty Nichols, Sophia and Ana; Eleni (Cruz) Rojas, Liana; Amanda (Michael) Karfakis, Andreas, Marina; brother and sister in law John and Niki Costianis, sister in law Aleka Costianis, Godson, George C Tselekis, many nephews and nieces both here and in Greece. In addition to her parents and husband she was pre deceased by a brother Chris Costianis and sister and brother in law Venetia and Taki Alexis.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Breiman, her dear care giver, June, Gadabout, 4th floor CMC staff and Hospicare.
Calling hours are at Bangs Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 20 from 6-8 pm, Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, December 21 at 1 pm with the Very Reverend Archimandrite Seraphim Poulos officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to St Catherine GOC 120 West Seneca St. Ithaca, NY or Hospicare 172 East King Rd. Ithaca, NY
