JAMES R. BUSH The Reverend James "Jim" R. Bush 81, passed away on December 8, 2023, at Reeds Cove Health and Rehabilitation, Wichita, Kansas. He was born January 10, 1942 in Nevada, Missouri to Roscoe and Genelda (Madole) Bush. On March 26, 1971, he married Patricia E Thomas. They later divorced. He then married L. Joan Brown on September 12, 1997. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2016. Jim retired in 2010 after serving over 40 years as a pastor for the United Methodist Church serving churches in Western and Central Kansas during his ministry. He grew up in Pratt, Kansas and graduated from Pratt High School. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield and then went on to Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he graduated from seminary. Jim loved to write and especially enjoyed writing short stories. He had a love of studying WWII and could often be found watching his favorite movies, especially "Saving Private Ryan". He loved to send greeting cards and never missed a birthday or holiday. James was an avid KU football and basketball fan and had a great love of animals, especially dogs. He is survived by his son James "Anthony" Bush (Rosetta), of Garfield, Kansas; a daughter Mary Boardman of St Louis, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 nieces and a nephew. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Betty Graham, Dorothy Welter and Pebble (Marie) Johnson. A memorial service will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Donna Voteau presiding. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kansas. Memorial donations may be made to the Caring Hands Humane Society and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
