Jane Schroeder

Jane Elizabeth Schroeder, 82, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2018) at her home. She was born on Nov. 28, 1935, in Hillsboro to Gustav and Linda (Fast) Frey. She was united in marriage to Lavern Alan Schroeder on Sept. 19, 1953, at Goessel Church. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Jane graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1953 and studied Journalism for two years at Wichita State University.

She spent time as a civil service secretary at McConnell Air Force Base and was a secretary for a law firm in Kansas City. Jane hosted The Joyce Livingston Show on KAKE TV in Wichita. She was a foster mother to three children.

Jane loved to sing, rehearsing at Julliard School of Music in 1964. She sang with the Double Chorale at the Philharmonic Hall and at Carnegie Hall in New York.

She established her own retail clothing store, Gillyflower Fashions Boutique, in 1982 and successfully conducted that business for over a decade. She loved clothes and being a business owner. Many of her customers insisted on dealing only personally with her.

She is survived by her husband, Lavern Schroeder; children: Mark Schroeder (Diane), Michael Schroeder, Craig Schroeder and Amy Hiebert (DeWayne); siblings: Gene Frey, Ira Frey, Ron Frey and Gladys Schroeder; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joel Frey; and a sister, Evangeline Hiebert.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 18, 2018) at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel. Graveside service will be at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will held at 3:15 p.m. following the burial at the church.
