David Ifill Obituary

LANCASTER – David I. Ifill Sr., 79, of Lancaster and formerly of Vassalboro, Maine, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Atrium Medical Center in Monroe, N.C.
He was born in Waterville, Maine, on Sept. 12, 1941, the son of Llewellyn and Kathleen (Brown) Ifill. He was educated in Vassalboro schools and graduated from Winslow High School in 1960. He also attended Mississippi State University.
David worked in the Local 320 Union as a millwright throughout the northeast. He also worked at Maine Central Railroad, owned several small businesses in metal fabrication and constructed many large steel support systems in shopping malls, department stores and in many different industrial applications. In the mid 1990s he worked for Valmet of Finland and travelled to Spain, Colombia, Canada and Sweden, where he further developed many skills in the paper industry. In 2004 he and his son formed HeadboxHelp LLC to serve many paper corporations across America in the work he loved.
David enjoyed playing and watching college and pro football on TV. He also enjoyed hunting as a young man and belonged to the Big Bucks of Maine Club. He enjoyed collecting antiques, cannons, coins, knives, swords, old pictures and paintings. He also liked taking pictures on family vacations and while traveling for his work.
He built his own home in Vassalboro and was very skilled in horticulture. He also was known for being able to fix anything and was a very talented man. He would help anyone in need and was very generous to all who knew him. Later in life, he especially enjoyed taking his granddaughter Emily everywhere and doing special things with her.
He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers James, Robert and Richard.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline (Boucher) Ifill; a daughter, Michelle L. Ifill of Rock Hill; a son, David I. Ifill Jr. of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Emily Megan Ifill of Lancaster; a brother-in-law, Lou Boucher of New Harbor, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held in Maine at a later date.
McCray Funeral Home is serving the family.

My deepest sympathy to Jackie and his family.

Dave was not only a classmate, but a teammate in football, basketball, wrestling, and track, and we also sang together in the glee club. We also spend many hours together working on his Model AA Ford dump truck, that he commuted to school daily in.

We later worked on several construction jobs together and shared many things. Iff was a true friend. In the midst of one my business trips after not seeing Iff for 40 years, I bumped into him at the Charlotte Airport, where we talked for a length of time and catching up, and almost missing each of our flights.
Early on, I also enjoyed visits by his lovely daughter Michelle who was a classmate and friend of my son. She sang in his band.

Dave was a clever man, industrious, ambitious and fun to around. He was a good man and will be sadly missed and remembered forever.

David and Iwere classmates, football teammates and inGlee club. David was fantastic athlete and football player. David fit right in to coach Wally LaFountains Miami Drive system. David was the fullback with great running skills. May his memory be a blessing to those who knew and loved him.

Dear Jackie and family, I am so sorry that you had to lose Dave. He was certainly an active member of Winslow High School's Class of 1960 and will live on in our memory. Stay close to each other and let the special times you shared replace the loss you are feeling now.

Dear Ifill family---I wish I could thank David for the years we worked together on big satellite dish mounts---when I lived in Vassalboro. David shined building these mounts, and was always on time. He always did what he said. Jackie--I was your paper boy on So.Belfast ave. in my younger days.Im sorry for your loss.
