LANCASTER, S.C. - Mrs. Edith Naomi Newton, known as Ms. Edie, age 76, passed away on Nov. 21, 2025.
Born July 26, 1949, a daughter of the late Hubert Lee Bryson and the late Sarah Anne Bryson and was the wife of the late Norman Lee Newton Jr.
Ms. Edie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose gentle spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A faithful member of Canaan Land Ministries, she cherished her church family and the fellowship they shared. She found joy in sewing, especially creating curtains and pillows, and she was known for baking a special cake for each loved one's birthday. Ms. Edie also loved spending quiet moments watching the birds gather at her feeders and could happily talk on the phone for hours, sharing stories and laughter. Her kindness, warmth, and the love she gave so freely will be remembered always.
Ms. Edie is survived by her children, Raymond Newton (Angie), Marcus Newton (Malinda), Letha Newton (Tim Brown), and Norman "Bo" Newton III (Christy); her grandchildren, Caleb Brown, Mckinsey Newton Harper, Ryan Brown, Colby Newton, Ellery Newton, Justin Cody Britt, and Meghan Knight; her brothers, Lloyd Bryson, Leon Bryson, and Jerry Bryson; and her sisters, Clara Brazell, Sarah "Jeanette" Kelly, and Ella Mae Britt.
Ms. Edie was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Newton Jr; her grandson, Kirkland Blythe Newton; her parents, Hubert and Sarah Byrson; her brothers, John Bryson, Thomas Bryson, Walter Bryson, and James Ray Bryson; and her sister, Nannie McLaughlin.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Ms. Edie will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at Canaan Land Ministries, officiated by Rev. Howard Penegar and Rev. Larry Hancock. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025 from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
