Edith Parker Obituary

Edith Taylor Parker, 101
LANCASTER – Mrs. Edith Taylor Parker, 101, went to be with her
Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, as she was surrounded by family and friends.
She was born April 13, 1914, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Goodman F. Taylor and Pearl Steele Taylor. She was the wife of the late I. W. Parker.
Mrs. Parker worked for Clemson Extension Center, ran the family dairy farm with her husband and retired from Lancaster County School District, where she worked at Buford High School in the cafeteria for many years.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking; birthday cakes and brownies were two of her specialties. Mrs. Parker lived a long, healthy life with the love of her family. In her life-span, she witnessed many wars and the progression and development of the automobile. Her life revolved around her family and friends. She was very independent and carried a positive attitude every day. She loved music and played her piano daily. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and was their pianist. Mrs. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Parker is survived by a daughter, Carol Parker Ghent; three grandchildren, Annette Ghent Melton and her husband, Keith, Angela Ghent, and Jamie Ghent Sims; a sister, Sarah Moore of Gastonia, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Melton and William Atticus Sims V.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, Goodman and Pearl Taylor; her husband, I.W. Taylor; a son, Maxwell Parker; a daughter, Baby Girl Parker; a son-in-law, Jimmy Ghent; and seven siblings, Robert Taylor, Chalmers Taylor, Ruby Williams, Caroline Taylor, Ruth Bittle, Jasper Taylor and Gladys Goodman.
Mrs. Parker's family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Chessie Allen, Mikala Febes and Beth Price.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Parker will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the chapel of Burgess Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Randy Hatcher. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster; and suggest memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721.
