James "Outie" H. Outen, 84, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.
He was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Kershaw, the son of the late John T. Outen and Mattie Miller Outen. He was the husband of Nickye Casey Outen, the love of his life for 66 years.
He served our country in the U.S. Navy for 12 years and during the Korean Conflict. He drove a truck for Wrangler/Blue Bell and Bi Lo, in which he retired. He was a very active member of Piedmont United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees. He was church treasurer for years until his health began to fail. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior.
Mr. Outen is survived by his wife, Nickye Casey Outen; one son, James Randolph (Randy) Outen of Missouri; a brother, Marion E. Outen (Judy) of Lancaster; two sisters, Annette O. Wright of Lancaster and Connie O. Agee (John) of Richburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Outen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amber Lee Outen; a son, Mark E. Outen; a sister, Linda Outen Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Ted O. Wright.
The celebration of life service was held Thursday, Nov. 3, at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MS Foundation in the name of James Randolph Outen of Columbia, Mo.; or Piedmont United Methodist Church, 31 Main St., Piedmont, SC 29673.
