JOAN THOMPSON Obituary

JOAN THOMPSON Joan M. (Choney) Thompson passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Michael and Josephine (Kuchle) Choney. Joan spent her early years in Worcester, graduating from Commerce High School in 1957 before attending Worcester State College. She joined New England Telephone where she worked with an amazing group of colleagues and friends. In 1975, she married John (Jack) Thompson and together they enjoyed many adventures until his passing in 2003. Joan appreciated life and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved music, novelty socks, birdwatching, traveling, reading, and spending time on Cape Cod with family. Joan was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in her life. Joan leaves behind two nieces and their spouses, Tracy McLaughlin Grandeau/Seth Grandeau, and Kelly McLaughlin/Melissa Rones, her brother-in-law John McLaughlin, her nephew Jeff Bobeck, her niece Chris Bobeck, great-niece Josephine Bobeck, great-nephew Erich Bobeck, and many members of the Thompson family including her stepchildren John, Patrick, Jimmy, Dan/Sandy, Nancy and her step-grandchildren Ryan, Jay, and Andrew and their families. She is predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Thompson, her sisters Carolyn Cowal, Gloria Bobeck and Nancy McLaughlin, her nephew Robert Bobeck and her stepson Joseph Thompson. RIP Choney sisters. To honor Joan's wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of a formal service, it was Joan's hope that groups of people that knew her well would "gather for a nice lunch, tell stories of her life, and order dessert in her honor". Remembrances to celebrate Joan's life can be made through contributions to your favorite animal shelter or rescue agency.
