CSM Andre Miguel Johnson

Command Sergeant Major Andre Miguel Johnson transitioned from this life at Fort Bliss, TX on Friday, October 25, 2013 at age 46.

He was the beloved husband of Sonja Averett Johnson and the proud father of three children: daughter, Jasmine and two sons, Andre Jr. and Jaylen. He was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Andre Lamont, De'Andre and Lenesius. Andre was the loving son of Lois Dorsey and Harrison Johnson, Sr.

For 28 years, he served honorably in numerous leadership positions in the United States Army. He served as a Squad Leader, Bradley Commander/Section Leader, Platoon Leader, First Sergeant, and Command Sergeant Major. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star with "V", Bronze Star (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), the Purple Heart, and other honors.

He is also survived by two sisters, Tonya J.Wilson and Lenesius J. Richard (Jason); a brother, Harrison S. Johnson II; and Shelia Damon-Johnson, who was like a mother, her three children, Chiquita, India and Antonio Damon; mother-in-law, Emma L. Averett; sister-in-law,

Monique A. Rayford (Kenneth); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Hazel Dorsey; paternal grandparents, Henry and Beverly Penn; two aunts, Nancy Lee Penn and Beverly D. Catherine.

Visitation at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, on Friday, November 8th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services at Shiloh Baptist Church, 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, November 9th at 11 a.m. Burial at Southern Memorial Gardens.

Johnson family...my heart aches. There are no words to express how saddened I am to hear of the passing of CSM Johnson. I apologize that I did not know in time to pay my respects properly. Andre', was a man of integrity, a Soldier to emulate, and a mentor to many.

To the Johnson Family, I was saddened when I heard the news today. CSM Johnson was an amazing person and Soldier; a caring and amazing father and husband too.
