Orville Powell

Orville Richard Powell, age 80 of Dover, TN, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Signature Healthcare of Erin.

At his request no services will be held.

Orville was born September 25, 1932 in Washington, PA to the late Lemon and Agnes Powell. He was also preceded in death by sister, Joy Powell.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Williams Hellenthal Powell, Dover, TN; brothers, Harry L. Powell (Joan), Adams, TN, David Powell (Patty Adams), Prosperity, PA; sisters, Karen Farabee (Wayne) and Melody Wilson, Texas; 3 stepsons, 8 step-grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild; special dogs, Sassy and Nikki.

Orville was a Korean War Veteran. He also served in the Army Reserves and the Oregon State Army Guards, retiring as Battion Commander. He has a lifetime career in law enforcement as-Pennsylvania State Trooper, Motorcyle Police Officer and Police Chief in cities in Arizona, California and Oregon. He retired from Oregon State University as Director of Public Safety.

He graduated from Columbia Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was also Juvenile Probation and Assistant Youth Services Officer for Stewart County Juvile Court from 2001-2005.

Orville was with Cryptic Masons, Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar of Oregon. He was also a Life Member of VFW. He was loved, respected, and will be missed by all who knew him.

His family loves and appreciates all the staff and Doctors at Signature Healthcare of Erin, and Caris Hospice who cared for him in his courageous battle with Parkinson's. Special thanks also to Dr. Constance Johnson, Clarksville, TN and Father Michael Baltrus from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Erin, TN.

Orville was a fine man of honesty and integrity. He was a good husband to my sister for many years. We pray for his soul and peace for her. May God bless both of them as they continue on their journies. RIP Orville....job well done.

Mr. Powell was a wonderful man. I enjoyed working with him on the Truancy Review Board and through his work with the court system. You could always depend on him to help you. He was one of a kind and will be missed. Praying for the family.
