Wayne Stamper Obituary

Dr. Wayne E. Stamper

Dr. Wayne E. Stamper, age 80, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Moseley Stamper and four children, James Wayne (Karren) Stamper of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Julee S. Poole, Christie S. (Mark) Davidson of Clarksville, TN, and Patrick Thomas Stamper of Clarksville, TN.

Dr. Stamper was born January 27, 1933 in Abingdon, VA to the late Thomas Joseph and Floy Castle Stamper.

He is also survived by sister, Betty Stamper (Howard) Carbary and one aunt, Geraldine Castle Carbary of Abingdon, VA and one grandson, Ryan Howard Davidson of Lubbock, TX.

Dr. Stamper was educated at Emory and Henry College, and Vanderbilt University, where he earned a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry. His professional career included both teaching and administrative positions at Emory and Henry College, Parsons College and Austin Peay State University. He was a visiting professor at Vanderbilt on two occasions. Administrative positions included Graduate Dean, Departmental Chairman at three institutions, Executive Assistant to the President at APSU and was President of Parsons College. He was a lead member of a team that developed, wrote and received funding for grants that amounted to millions of dollars for several colleges. He retired from APSU.

His community activities concentrated on support of youth activities, including Boy Scouts, coaching little league football, and youth soccer. He received the silver beaver and earned four wood badge beads as a scout leader. He held many positions as a Kiwanian.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 1 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Bro. Jimmy Terry officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 220 Great Circle Road, #134, Nashville, TN 37228; or the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.
