ARTHUR KARL ZINSZER, 94
LAKELAND - Arthur Karl Zinszer, of Lakeland, passed away on August 2, 2018, at the age of 94. He was born on October 15, 1923 in Newark, NJ. to Harry Enghauser and Emma Weippert ZInszer. He will be remembered as living a life based on his strong belief in God, Family, and Country. As a young boy he was one of five children and lived through the Depression which taught him responsibility and the value of hard work at an early age. He graduated High School in 1941. February 1943, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, 6th Division, to proudly serve his country in World War II. While serving he saw New Calidonia, Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Eniwetok, Guam, Okinawa, and Tsingtao China. He went into Machinery Training School, and after Combat Training was selected to help set up an Amphibious Smoke Screen Unit. In 1944 he was transferred out of the Infantry to the Tank Battalion, Recovery and Maintenance. He was honorably discharged in February 11, 1946. Just prior to enlisting he had met the woman who would later become his beautiful wife. Eleven months after returning from the war he married Beatrice DuBois (deceased) who remained the love of his life for 70 years.
They moved to Fanwood, NJ and started their family. They had 3 children: Arthur Richard (deceased), Karen Ruth and Loren Jeanne. He had a long career with the American Can Company as a Sales and Service Representative.
His job included a great deal of travel, including months in places like Puerto Rico and Israel, where he conducted training for large equipment machinists.
In 1972 he was transferred to Lakeland, which he loved immediately because of year round golf. After choosing early retirement from American Can he then became involved with Real Estate with Century 21, Pilot Realty. He became a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church. His hobbies were working in the yard, bowling, travel, entertaining his family and friends with his wonderful sense of humor, and lots and lots ... and lots of golf.
Art is survived by daughters Karen Zinszer and Loren Bennette, grandchildren Lillia ZInszer and Jackson Bennette, step granddaughter Heather Wheeler and her children Logan and Nolan, and sister Louise Stevenson. His brothers Harry, Edwin, and sister Evelyn preceded him in death. He lived by the code to treat strangers like friends, and friends like family. He demonstrated great dignity and grace through the harsh struggles of dementia right up to the end.
All that remember Art are asked to join us in celebrating his wonderful 94 years of life. Memorial Services will be held on August 25, 2018 at 11:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland in the Chapel, reception following. In lieu of flowers you may consider a donation to FPC (
