Daniel and Cynthia Dorsch obituary

Daniel Dorsch Obituary

DANIEL J.
DORSCH, 56
& CYNTHIA P.
DORSCH, 55

LAKELAND - Daniel J. and Cynthia Dorsch passed away together on July 5, 2009 in a plane crash near Roanoke, Va. while returning home to Tampa, FL from New York City. The high school sweethearts met in San Diego, CA and were married for over 37 years. Cyndie and Dan were married on April 28, 1978. They shared a great love for their family and friends and always considered their 3 sons to be their greatest achievement.
Daniel Joseph Dorsch, 56, was born January 20, 1953 in La Jolla, CA. In his early years, Dan was a standout football player and motocross racer. He served in the Navy during Vietnam aboard the USS Oriskany as an air traffic controller. As a 40-year restaurant industry veteran, Dan touched many lives throughout the country and measured his accomplishments by helping others achieve success. As a self-made man, his career accomplishments are truly amazing. Credited with the turnaround of the Checkers Drive-In restaurants chain as CEO, he also served as the President of the AKFCF for Kentucky Fried Chicken, owned numerous KFC, Taco Bell, Kenny Rogers' Roasters, and Papa John's franchises, and was the founder of Fun Bike Center Motorsports and Mojo's Wings, Burgers, and Beer in Lakeland, FL. Dan was a true family man that loved taking family vacations and relaxing at the beach with his wife and sons. He had a passion for life and embodied that spirit with all of his friends and family. An accomplished businessman, pilot, mentor, leader, loving husband, father, brother, son, and friend, he is survived by his three sons Jordan, Elliott, and Nicholas Dorsch, his father Daniel W. Dorsch, his brother David Dorsch, and his sister Julie Massie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cynthia Posadas Dimalanta-Dorsch, 55, was born August 23, 1954 in Dagupan City, Philippines. At age 9 her family immigrated to San Diego, California. As the oldest of 6 siblings, Cynthia helped her parents raise her own brothers and sisters while excelling in academics at Madison High School . Cyndie went on to graduate from the University of California at Berkeley, earning a degree in Psychology. As the self proclaimed "Household CEO," she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, always putting her friends' and family's needs before her own. One of her greatest attributes was her uncanny ability to make friends in any situation due to her genuine, kind-hearted spirit and outgoing personality. Cyndie truly had a zest for life, and was passionate about many activities including tennis, ceramics, painting, yoga, Mah Jongg, computers, Facebook, texting, personal training, volunteering and ballroom dancing. Over the past few years, Cyndie had developed a love for ballroom dancing and quickly became one of the country's top amateur "rising stars". She traveled around the world, touching the lives of many new friends as she competed in ballroom dancing. Known in the ballroom dancing world as "Dancing Girl," she found her calling and poured her heart into it. She is survived by her three sons Jordan, Elliott, and Nicholas Dorsch, her father Emilio Dimalanta, her brothers Ed, Art, Perry, and Doug Dimalanta as well as her sister Cecelia Nickmeyer; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass celebrating the lives of Dan and Cyndie will be held on Saturday, July 18, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Temple Terrace at 2pm, a second service will be held at Tampa Palms Country Club at 4pm, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd., Tampa, Fl. 33647. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Daniel and Cynthia Dorsch Fund, 550 N. Reo St., Suite 301, Tampa, Fl. 33609, in their names. Just remembering back to when we met... Uni High´s 440 relay team at the CIF championships in San Diego´s Balboa Stadium. We medaled, getting us varsity letters as freshman... Danny invited me to a party afterwards, and our lifelong friendship began. I miss you my friend. God bless

I was Danny's sister Julie's best friend. I knew Danny since 1963, he was hysterical always making me laugh. Cindies mom was my nurse at Sharps hospital when I had my first son who passed in 2001. Danny was a great kid and turned into a very successful man. He and Cindie will be missed. Deepest sympathy to the Dorsch Family. May their sons know just how wonderful their parents were and loved by many. I found out of their passing while doing genealogy.

I am so sorry to hear of Danny and Cyndie leaving so early in life. I was friends with Dan in high school and was impressed by his energy and athleticism. We rode his VW bug behind Madison (scared the hell out of me) more than once. He was very popular and rightly so. Both of us became pilots but at different times in life. My heart goes out to his children and family.............Mike Williams

Your parents were such fun wonderful people. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.
Cyndie and I played tennis together at Tampa Palms and knew each other through Berkeley Prep when my daughter, Kimberly Hannah, was there.
I always looked forward to her Christmas letters giving me all the updates on you whom she absolutely adored.
One thing that i will always remember is when your parents and my husband and i were out to dinner once, Cyndie ordered dessert first-----she said she loved dessert best and wanted to enjoy it before she ate her meal and became full!!!

God bless you all and may He offer you comfort and strength at this time.

It’s taken some time to come to grips with the sudden tragic loss of two of life’s most precious people. I’ve decided to celebrate Dan and Cyndie’s life and ask everyone to do the same. Isn’t that what they always taught us? Too look straight in the face of adversity and rise above it. Dan was truly my Mentor and I often told him that. I first worked with Dan back when he was president of KFC’s franchisees, producing his videos and after a 20 plus year relationship, countless videos and experiences later. I’m way better for knowing Dan, Cyndie and the entire JNE family. Over my career I have worked with many CEO’s. No one even comes close to the level at which Dan performs and expects you to perform. His turn around of Checkers was an amazing story and I was lucky enough to have a front row seat. We really made a difference, and it was because of Dan’s vision and his ability to get everyone on the same page. I’m sad I won’t see Dan and Cyndie anymore, glad that I was able to have them as friends and encouraged to continue on, raise the bar again and pass it on. My thoughts are with Jordan, Elliot, Nick, Perry, Amber, Ed, Grace, Dave, Bruce, Gary and the entire JNE family. Thank you Dan and Cyndie for everything!

Jordon, Nick, Elliot, and the entire Dorsch family:
Your parents had a zest for life! A gusto inherited by you young men. They worked and played hard. Dan’s vigor and business savvy earned him the title of “turn-around artist”; while Cyndie’s young spirit and enthusiasm fueled her passionate dancing. These weren’t people who expected entitlements; nor taught their love ones to anticipate them; and it showed in the college degrees each of you earned.
Our connection to the Dorsch’s was via the Rahman family and we enjoyed an Alaskan cruise together. The best part was our dinners together, and the guys karaoke afterwards. What fun it was. No shy members in the Dorsch clan. They were doers. They made things happen, just like their parents did.
Jane and I know that you will continue the family legacy.
Our condolences to your family and those others lost in this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dan and Cyndie were truly wonderful people. My Heart is aching for the boys. I never realized what a huge impact Mr Dorsch had on my life until I heard that he was gone. I would have never met my wife and had 4 great sons if it weren't for the opportunities that Dan had given me. The biggest mistake that I have made was leaving his company. I wish I was still there. If my boys turn out to be 1/2 the men Dan's boys have become I know I would have been a good father. Our prayers are with the whole JNE family

To the Dorsch and Matkovski families,
I am so sorry for your loss. Cyndie and Stepan were fabulous people and a wonderful addition to the dance community. We are all shocked and saddened by this turn of events. I can only hope that their time in Manhattan was as great and joyful as the light they brought us this weekend.

I formally met Cyndie a few years back at I believe the USDC ballroom competition in Orlando we were both competing in.I had seen her at previous competitions and loved her eneergy. She was an amazing woman. She was a woman who had endless energy and a woman who was always positive and ready to help you out when you needed the help. She was also a friend of mine on Facebook. I always enjoyed keeping in touch with her when we were not at the same competition. I always looked forward to seeing her at a competition. I met Stepan as well and he was such an amazing dancer and person! He was so nice and you could see how much passion he had in his dancing. I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Dorsch but I am sure he was a wonderful man as well! My prayers are with the Dorsch family as well as the Matkovski family. I am still in shock over the news and I know it will take a while for this to settle. They all will be greatly missed.

Your parents were wonderful people. I considered them friends from Tampa Palms Country Club, Soccer and grade school. Elliot and Kevin were in grade school together and I worked on many volunteer projects with Cyndie. My prayers are with your entire family.

I had the good fortune of meeting Dan in the mid-1990's when we we involved with setting up a 401k plan for Papa John's. He impressed me with his enthusiasm and drive. I recall him showing me the photos of his boys on the wall of his office and the photos of the cruise that he had taken his employees on recently. Dynamic, driven, respected, and cherished by friends and business associates is how he will be remembered. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
