JONES, Jr., 74
LAKELAND - David H. "Papa" Jones Jr., 74, went to meet his heavenly Father on 12/24/12 due to heart failure.
David was a lifetime resident of Lakeland FL before retiring in upstate SC in 1999. He served as a U.S. Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne for 3 years, worked in the phosphate industry, then 33 years for Farmland Industries in Mulberry, FL until he retired. Papa enjoyed fishing, hunting,
golfing, gardening, playing with his dogs and telling his life stories to
his grandchildren. He loved sitting on the back porch, could name any
plant or tree, a devoted Florida Gator fan, and was an avid history buff,
especially WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arlene Sheridan Jones; sister, Sherri Jones-Morgan (Jerry) of Bartow, FL; son, Kevin David Jones (Aimee) of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Karen Kochenburger (Jim) of Altamonte Springs, FL; granddaughters, Brooke Jones, Stephanie Jones Whipple
(Kristopher), Hanna Larracas Jones & Kristin Kochenburger; and grandsons, David R. Jones, David "Oyo" Larracas Jones & Michael Kochenburger (Hannah).
Funeral services will be Mon. 12/31 at 11 a.m. at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd. Lakeland.

My prayer and heart reaches out to all. "The Jones Family" in this time of loss,but i know he had a wonderful life God has called this great man of God to heaven and what a honor to be heaven, seeing family and friends... I loved as my father did they were buddy's for many years and some great times and stories. although i have not seen Arlene and David, Kevin and Karen for years.. it all seems like yesterday, those are my memories i will carry with me in my heart forever. I love the Jones family and will continue to keep you all in my daily prayers in this loss and grieving process. Your husband and daddy was a beautiful soul ? so carry his legacy with you in your heart everyday ?

Arlene and family, We are so sorry to hear about David. We lost touch with you all after you moved; and then Jim retired and we moved. We know that this is a hard time for you; but we also know that your faith is strong and that it will carry you through this difficult time. I am so sorry to hear the news. Dave and I accomplished alot working together and with that came a very close bond. I only wish I had not lost touch when you retired. We wish you the best and if there is anything we can do, please let us know. We are off playing in Texas and did not hear the news until today.

Papa, you were the "constant" in my life. it didn't matter what was going on; how much time went by; how old i got, you were always the one I knew would be there whenever i needed that reassuring voice. You were always so strong for everyone. You knew so much, and I remember as a little girl, and even now, wondering how you knew sooo much about everything. We would watch TV together, or be in the car together, and everything that we passed or saw you seemed to know about. Dad is like that too, and it makes me miss you more, but at the same time, it's reassuring to know that my dad is a lot like you. You will always be "my papa" and I will always be your "angel". I'm so glad that one of the last things we did together was have our little date night at dinner when i was up there. I love you so much and miss you soo soo much.

I got to know David during the 17 years I worked at Green Bay. He was "straight as an arrow" and a great person to be around. He was always very helpful and very respected. It was because of associates like David that the time I spent at Green Bay was a great experience. I know he will be greatly missed by friends and and family.
