David Marlowe Obituary

LAKELAND -- Mr. David Wayne Marlowe of Lakeland, who died of heart failure Tuesday (July 26, 2005), will be remembered for his uplifting personality and dedication as a police detective. He was 39.Mr. Marlowe was born April 3, 1966, in New Albany, Ind.Tom Collins, Mr. Marlowe's supervisor in the Lakeland Police Department's Burglary Unit, recognized his friend's ability to lighten the often tense mood of police work."He was a fun guy to be around," said Collins, a former partner of Mr. Marlowe's. "He could always cheer you up when you were feeling down."He took his work seriously and set high, ethical standards, fellow officers said.During a recent case Mr. Marlowe broke, police recovered thousands of dollars and made several arrests related to an out-of-state homicide."He was highly intelligent and good with technology," Collins said. "He was also patient and attentive to detail."Mr. Marlowe worked with the Lakeland Police Department for 16 years. He was twice nominated for police officer of the year and also for several service awards. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader with Troop 712 in Lakeland. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.LPD Sgt. Jeff Birdwell remembered Mr. Marlowe as a devoted family man who loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting."He was a robust individual who lived life to its fullest. He loved to laugh. He had a very humorous (and) sarcastic way of responding to an individual."Mr. Marlowe is survived by his wife, Gloria Marie Marlowe; sons, Justin Michael Marlowe, Spencer John Marlowe and Eric Christopher Marlowe, all of Lakeland; parents, Vicki and Preston Studstill, Lakeland; paternal grandmothers, Eloise Marlowe, Naples, Eula Studstill, Lakeland; maternal grandmother, Georgia Wright, Spar; brother, Christopher Marlowe, Lakeland; stepbrothers, Shawn Marlowe and Scott Marlowe, both of Naples; half sister, Kristi Miller, Middleburg, Pa.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lakeland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Lakeland Center's Youkey Theater. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Marlowe's family has asked that donations be made to the David Marlowe Fund at Citrus & Chemical Bank.
