BOCA RATON, FL. - Delores "Dee" Dahlman Hornbeck passed away on September 25, 2012, in Boca Raton, Florida, at the age of 88, in the company of her loving family.
Dee was born in Highland Park, Michigan, on January 19, 1924 to Henri and Ernestine Dahlman. She was one of six children. Dee met her future husband, William "Bill" Hornbeck, while attending Highland Park High school. After graduation, she worked in customer relations for Michigan Bell during World War II. When Bill returned from the war, they were married on September 7, 1946 and with the help of friends and family they built their first home in Livonia, Michigan. When their first child, Susan, was born, Dee stayed home and raised the family. Bill's career as a chemical engineer would take the family to live around the United States: New Jersey, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and eventually, Florida, where Dee embarked on a second career selling real estate in Lakeland, Florida. With a keen eye for home values and a warm and genuine way of working with people, Dee sold numerous homes in Central Florida.
After retiring, Dee and Bill moved to their condominium on Long Boat Key, Florida. In 2010, they moved to Boca Raton, Florida to be near their children.
Dee is survived by her husband, William Hornbeck of Boca Raton, Florida; her daughter Susan Veshosky of Ocoee, Florida and her husband Geri; her son, Ralph Hornbeck of Boca Raton, Florida and his wife Dee; her daughter, Janice Haley of Delray Beach, Florida and her husband Steve. She is also survived by her sister, Marquerite Schroeder of North Port, Florida. Delores had six grandchildren: Angela Green, Amy Veshosky, Sara Haley, Cristi Haley, William Hornbeck, and Rachael Hornbeck.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Unity Church of Delray Beach, FL. She will be buried in South Florida National VA Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL.
